PSF 2017 – Barbara Bush, The Don’t We Boys and Brick Penguin
April 21, 2017 @ 10:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Philly Sketchfest’s (PSF) goal is to entertain audiences, support the growth of Philadelphia’s comedy community, and celebrate national and international sketch groups with unique shows, performers, and panels.
Barbara Bush is an all-female sketch group of BFFs-slash-writers-slash-performers from Philadelphia. Barbara Bush performs at venues across Philadelphia, and members of Barbara Bush perform in sketch and improv house teams at the Philly Improv Theater. In November 2016, Barbara Bush premiered “The Body Show” at Good Good Comedy Theatre, and they have since performed it at the 2017 Toronto Sketchfest, 2017 Women In Comedy Festival, and the Peoples Improv Theater (NYC). Barbara Bush previously performed at the 2015 Crossroads Comedy Festival and 2016 Philly Sketchfest, and members of Barbara Bush have performed at the Chicago Sketchfest, Out Of Bounds Comedy Festival, Pittsburgh Comedy Festival, and Charm City Comedy Festival. Recently, one Barbara became an emo internet hero after protesting outside of Trump Tower using signs with Dashboard Confessional lyrics on them (it was Shawna).
Barbara Bush is comprised of Jolie Darrow, Julia Hudson, Courtney Painter, Nicole Zeits, and head writer Shawna Stoltzfoos, and is directed by Jacquie Baker (The Flat Earth, The Incredible Shrinking Matt & Jacquie).
The Don’t We Boys
(Grand Rapids, MI)
Founded in 2010, now an awkward teenager with a sense of adventure, The Don’t We Boys divides its time between rebelling against society’s totally unfair rules, sneaking out after curfew to explore abandoned mines, and working up the nerve to finally be honest with ourselves about our bodies. Come check out The Don’t We Boys and relive the awkwardness and wonderment of your childhood. You’ll enter asking, “Why?” and leave screaming, “I bet it had something to do with The Don’t We Boys!?”
The Don’t We Boys is a critically-acclaimed, fast-paced sketch comedy show that has performed in over 30 states including San Francisco Sketch Fest, NYC, Seattle, Milwaukee, Philly, Austin, Vancouver, Chicago, and Gilda’s LaughFest. Featuring Second City Detroit alum Joe Anderson, North Carolina’s AJ Schraeder (Thunderstood) and Sonny Pandit.
“…whimsically dark, self-referential and yielded as many gags-per-second as a Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker film.” – SF Sketchfest review
“…like reading a Choose Your Own Adventure book straight through without skipping pages: inhumanly fast-paced and whimsical.” – The Rapidian
Brick Penguin is a high-octane sketch comedy group based from Washington, DC. The group has been entertaining audiences in DC and across America for more than six years, and has written, performed and produced over forty unique shows. The Penguins have performed in the Philly Sketchfest, Chicago Sketchfest, New York City (PIT) Sketch Comedy Festival, North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival, Boston Comedy Arts Festival, and the Charm City Comedy Festival. The Penguins brings a raucous brand of comedy to the stage that is often irreverent, occasionally intelligent, and always a little dark…or a lot. We regret nothing!
Brick Penguin is John Calcerano, Murphy McHugh, and Amy Vance.
